Business: A health services and innovation company helping to make the health system work better for everyone.
1) Tell us about Optum.
Optum, the health services business of UnitedHealth Group, helps make the health system work better for everyone by solving the biggest and most complex challenges facing health care.
Optum's nearly 125,000 people worldwide serve the healthcare needs of 115 million people. 400 Optum employees are located in Santa Ana, California, and have partnered with Project Hope Alliance for the past several years.
Optum works collaboratively across the health system to improve care delivery, quality and cost-effectiveness, and focuses on three key drivers of transformative change: empowering the consumer, improving care delivery, and modernizing the health system infrastructure.
2) What role does giving back play at Optum?
Social responsibility leverages the extraordinary abilities of our people, ideas, and resources to help the communities where we live and work.
We live our mission of helping people live healthier lives and helping make the health system work better for everyone, incorporating our values of integrity, compassion, relationships, innovation, and performance every day, in everything we do.
Giving, volunteering, and business innovations are the ways in which we live our mission and respond to the needs of our communities. Each is important. Together, they become a powerful commitment to improving health, people's lives, and communities. When more than 125,000 people across our enterprise decide to make a difference, anything is possible.
3) Why did Optum choose to partner with Project Hope Alliance?
The Optum Santa Ana office has partnered with Project Hope Alliance for several years because we believe we're able to make a local impact for children in need. Project Hope Alliance is an organization that truly knows the clients they serve. Additionally, our efforts are acknowledged by Project Hope Alliance, as well as by their clients.
4) In what ways does Optum support Project Hope Alliance?
Over the past several years, Optum has participated in numerous Project Hope Alliance events. Each year Optum adopts several children for the back-to-school backpack, coat, and shoes drives. We have also participated in providing meals at Thanksgiving for families. We end the year with adopting families for holiday gifts and to enrich the lives of Project Hope Alliance clients. Optum employees tend to give more than the minimal request. We provide additional food for Project Hope Alliance's food pantry, purchase thoughtful gifts for the children, and request matching funds from UnitedHealth Group for our participation.
5) What gives Optum hope?
When you help build a healthier community, it's good for others and it's good for you. Creating a thriving community is an important part of doing well. As a health organization, it is important that our employees and surrounding communities have more opportunities for healthier lives. If we're able to contribute in some way to this goal, we have hope for our future.
Thank you, Optum, for giving the gift of hope.
