"As You Like It" as we loved it!
For the fourth year in a row, the University of California, Irvine (UCI), generously invited Team Kid and the families we serve to experience the New Swan Shakespeare Festival—before it was unveiled to the public.
On Wednesday, July 6, we arrived at the exquisite outdoor New Swan Theater to a delicious dinner provided by UCI Dining. The opportunity to sit down with our families and connect on a personal level is one we absolutely cherish. With our hearts and bellies full, it was showtime.
And what an incredible show it was. As their final dress rehearsal before opening day, the group performed "As You Like It," Shakespeare's beloved comedy of love, disguise, exile, and companionship. Not only did the students' immense performing talents entertain a captive audience, they invited our kids to be part of the dynamic play, incorporating interactive elements into the story. After all, "all the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players."
Cultural experiences like this one help uplift and inspire the children and parents we serve by gifting them an evening to enjoy nourishing food, connect with Team Kid and other families, appreciate the arts, and relax in the great outdoors. Moments like these are a luxury and rarity for our hardworking families.
