A Letter To Project Hope Alliance: 'I Made It To The Honors List'

"This is what it's really all about," writes La Shawn Hye, Manager of Housing and Community, in a recent email to Team Kid.

He's referring to the following success story of one of the amazing kids we serve. No longer a child, the current California State University, East Bay, student shines as a hope-filled example of how a roof over one's head and an exceptional education can remarkably uplift a life.

We helped end homelessness for this student and her family, and with her determination and hard work paired with our continued support, she is thriving academically as an honors student with an impressive 3.6-3.79 GPA. Here's her inspiring message.

Hi La Shawn, how are you?
I'm sending you this email to let you know that I kept my word. I appreciate everything you, Project Hope, and the staff at Project Hope have done for my family and I. I cannot thank you enough for helping me with the purchase of my textbooks for the quarter.
I had a rough start at my school because I got extremely home sick. So home sick that I wanted to quit and drop out of school, and continue some other time. I somehow found the motivation to continue, and got better. With that being said, I did everything I could to get good grades.
Attached is a screenshot of my grades. This is my thank you to you & Project Hope for all the help that we have received from you guys! Also, because of my grades, I made it to the honors list, which I never in a million years thought would happen. I have never been great when it comes to academics, so this is a huge accomplishment!
Once again, thank you so much for helping me out with my textbooks. I highly appreciate it! :)
Happy Holidays.
