Number of Children… 2
Ended Homelessness… November 5, 2014
Two small Orange County boys and their mother recently ended three years of homelessness, just in time for Thanksgiving. Here’s the full story from Chrissie, one of our amazing case managers:
“E” has been raising her boys on her own since her divorce three years ago. She and her two sons were living in uninviting motels and doubled-up in different places during this difficult time. In the midst of it all, E secured a stable, full-time job and often worked overtime to keep her family afloat. She was adamant that the boys never felt poor, because E made sure their life was rich with tradition. Singing holiday songs with the boys replaced the ‘need’ for holiday trappings. Giving thanks and keeping sprits high were E’s daily presents to her children.
The trio moved into their new home on the cusp of Thanksgiving, with such grace and gratitude that they became popular with neighbors overnight. They are thrilled to be part of their community, and can walk to work and to the boys’ school, respectively. Life is so much safer, simpler and saner now!
In addition to helping with move-in costs, [Project Hope] provided E and the two boys with bus passes, [food] pantry items, tutoring and mentorship through Big Brothers Big Sisters. The basics in life have now become a reality for this loving family of three!
